Another week Week 3 is over! Ended with my latest night ever at work. Stayed till about 8.30pm. Sometimes, I really like it when I'm one of the last few person around at work. The peacefulness that surrounds is great! Hopefully, I'm able to find a job in the future that has me staying back because I want to and not because I'm left with no choice. Next week's already my last week and yes, my interviewer was correct. 4 weeks is too short for me to do anything much. Now that I've gotten into the momentum, I aruptly have to seek a closure to everything. Just when I'm making some headway in the optimisation process, I gotta hand over my work back to my mentor rather than seeing the finalisation of protocols. The final complete run I had on Wed/Thurs turned out fine at the processing stage. The sample's gonna go through freeze dying, NMR and finally, the making of hydrogel. Results should be out on Wednesday, and I certainly do hope that something good comes out from this one and only scaled-up trial. Today was one of my final attempt at refining the steps even further, though it was more of a shortcut path. I recall those few days where I had late lunch / takeaway from Matrix (Thanks to my fellow interns who accompanied me for lunch in the pantry), days very much earlier in lab or late at night; just to monitor the system's pH, or to carry out purifications/testing. I truly enjoyed the days of troubleshooting and analysing at the "battle front". Reason being, it isn't really the result that has gone wrong; I'm right at the forefront trying to tweak the protocols so that others can use it for their respective applications. It feels different because there's no physical "results" that I'm able to get, yet it could possibly go a long way for others' use. I guess that's a point about research I've learnt from this internship - everyone's part of a larger team. And I'm really enjoying research more and more with each passing day. Others were right about me, I'll steer into research sooner or later. It's a path I've avoided all along; it's also a path that I've returned to, and hopefully it's the path that I'll stay with. This week's been rather busy too, with my going for time-offs over 3 days - be it official, unofficial or self-declared. Issues were settled regarding DSO, UROP and specialisation. The best takeaways from these sessions are the personal experiences shared by the respective parties. Well, my mind is indeed once again entangled by various options available, but hopefully I'll be able to see beyond the fear and apprehension of uncetainties to embrace the choice that I want. Work's been hectic too as I attempt to run overlapping batches of expts or even concurrently at times, while trying to get hold of apparatus with increased number of users. Busier than usual, but I like it this way. Nevermind about the grouches; I'm just lamenting. I just recalled that I had a dream that I had was a dream. It sort of fooled me into believing that it was a real incident that I've sort of forgotten. Anyway, weekend's gonna be meetup with sec school frens, rushing of exit presentation slides, shopping for farewell gifts, formal wears and shoes, preparing stuffs for handover. Next week's ICBN conference and as student helper, I'm able to sit in the talks! Looking forward to it. So many interesting projects! Bio, Nano! =D I've gone one big round trying to run away from what I've been avoiding all these while, only to return to where I started from. The difference is that, maybe I'm sinking in deeper this time. Tuesday, July 27, 2010 @ 9:42 PM
Happening days The past 2 days have been rather happening! Monday woke up early at 5.40 so that I can report for work at 7.30 to cover for my time-off later in the day. Gave me a sense of satisfaction though. And actually I didn't really feel terrible doing that too because I quite enjoyed what I was about to do. =D Meeting at DMERI went well, and I felt greatly welcomed by the place and people. It's really tempting, but I know I gotta step back and think it through carefully first. Went to engin to takeaway Mac for my dinner cos I thought I wouldn't be able to finish my expt. Turned out I did, and on time. Joined the "Titans" at White Dogs Cafe after that and I had fries. It was a huge portion O.o Next up was movie "Despicable Me"! Nice! =D I like Gru! A sad soul that puts on a despicable front so that no one else will enter his lonely world. He rejects kindness because he isn't sure if it does exist; and would rather choose to be evil, which is a characteristic that is within his control. That is, until the 3 kids came along to fill his fortified heart with warmth and happiness, which gave him the confidence to believe in the rosy side of life again. Yet another cartoon that runs parallel to that of Toy Story 3. Good! Today's less happening, but still, it's a day of "a series of unfortunate events" that turned out fine after all. lol. Bidding's a close shave for me and I think I did manage to secure my econometrics module, which I spent so much effort appealing to various authorities. Went back school and settled another pending issue; though it was a rather malu situation, but hopefully it's more of an amusing incident. Lost my favourite pen, only for it to re-surface again - quite creepy though; me and my fren both lost our pens but at the end of the day, her pen was on the desk in front of my seat and my pen ended up in my bag O.o Threw away my sample for one of my runs and I still thought, wow, what's that solid thing doing there? Knocked over another sample, but fortunately, that run turned out to be a dead end. A mixture of highs and lows; but overall, I'm a happy person today! =D Maybe it's the sense of positivity that overwhelms me when I'm back in school! Speaking of which, the crowd in school makes me nervous. Perhaps it is the quiet side of school that attracts me. Tomorrow and Thurs's the make-or-break day for my internship! I think it's gonna be the final synthesis run that I'm gonna have, and it's on a larger-than-usual scale. No more trial-and-error; just a one-time-off thing. Excited yet uncertain. I really do hope that everything will turn out fine, though I'm quite mentally prepared for failures too. Really don't wish to see the latter as it'll leave this tugging feeling about leaving an unfinished job behind. Yet that's research - things do not always turn out the way we hope it will. Only thing is that, time is not on my side. Next week's gonna be lots of admin stuff already. And I think students are supp to help out at the 3-days ICBN conference! Yay! Maybe I can catch some of the exciting talks about nanotechnology - without paying for it! Oopss. And Friday's already my exit presentation and clearance, leaving Thurs for work but my expt are all overnight procedures. Meaning that next week's gonna be expt-free =( Indeed, 4 weeks are too short.. After getting into the momentum, I now enjoy the process of trying to diagnose failures - and yes, most of my expt turns out to be failures, which are great learning and thinking points! =D Wish me luck! Can't find the concert version, which I have it in mp3 format. Much nicer! We Will Get There. On radio now. It's been a good 8 years. But the fond memories remain. Maybe in life, we do not need things that can constantly stay in our mind. Just those that pops by once in a while, yet nonetheless gives the same feel as before, would suffice. They are what we call, precious moments. Saturday, July 24, 2010 @ 11:24 PM
Everything's looking good Oh man! Everything's looking good!!! I'm so happy now, after seeing an email. Now all my pending issues are settled! =D So happy that there's this surge of energy in me, waiting to be released via a jump or a scream!! :) So it seems to me that I'd be taking 6 mods next sem after all! And planning timetable this morning was a breeze actually cos there weren't terrible clashes. I have proper lunch slots everyday. And I can get a pseudo-free day! Even though I think I'll be back in school after all on that day, but it's okay - I'm sure I will enjoy it! Happy happy! Though nothing finalised, but hopefully everything will go well as planned. Indeed, thinking less without compromising on the quality of thoughts goes a long way in getting things done. I've learnt my lesson not to second-guess others' thoughts cos it only hinders progression. Went to John Little Sales @ Expo today. Wanted to get sneakers, sports shoe, sling bag and jacket. Ended up with a tote bag and some facial product. lol. The sports section was rather disappointing I'd say. But I'm happy with my buys! Next up, joined my ex-colleagues for BBQ @ ECP :D It's nice seeing them again, though I didn't get to see my mentor who just went overseas yesterday. Nvm, we're gonna have a meeting up when she's back again! The feel is really very "family" and that's a very tempting reason for me to return to the company after graduation. But the rational side of me tells me no, since it's not very relevant to what I'm studying, and I like what I'm studying lol. At some point of time, I stoned thinking about those days I spent there - full of happiness. There wasn't much awkwardness too, even though I was in my usual quiet self. I thought of where I am now, and the "feel" is just different. It was really an entertaining night :D And yes, I am the rare one with camera phone amongst the crowd. lol. Looking forward to tomorrow's K-session! And next week's gonna be an eventful one, perhaps even slightly risky? O.o I hope I will 有惊无险 survive through next week. =D I'm sure I will; but even if I do not, it actually doesn't seem to matter much to me anymore. I might not know where my correct path lies; but if I'm on the wrong one, I can feel it. Friday, July 23, 2010 @ 9:28 PM
End of Week 2 End of 2nd week of internship, and I'm halfway through! Today was great - Out of 5 pending issues, I've managed to settled 4 of them :) Not to mention that my expts were working rather well for me. Experience does matter I guess. I only have 10 more days left for my internship, even though I've just completed 10 days. O.o School's starting soon, that means CORS bidding is up soon. And I'm actually looking forward to it. Lol. I think I've gone from resisting CORS to enjoying the thrills of bidding. Looks like I've learnt to co-exist with whatever that once seemed like an obstacle. Weekend's gonna be great! Birthday BBQ with ex-colleagues on Sat. K-session with sec sch frens on Sun. And then moving on to my exciting 3rd week of work. With work planned out for at least 4 days! And friday's open house anyway, so shld be a rather "slack" day. Just one last time. @ 12:08 AM
Scattered thoughts. Quality not quantity. Something I should learn about thinking - so many thoughts cluttering my mind that I don't even know what I'm thinking about. Overthinking also disrupts the intuition that comes with many issues. There are quite a number of things that I have to settle, which I've been running away from or pushing aside till the very last moment. Guess they're all crashing down on me now and all these pending matters just have to be settled. I think I'll have to make a physical visit tomorrow so as to strike off 3 issues at one go. That leaves about 2 other pending issues I guess. Anyway, my expt finally succeeded today! After going through numerous failures. lol. I do enjoy analysing why things go wrong when they do, which is something I picked up from lab sessions last sem. It's a pity I didn't apply this skill over the past few days, where I kept running to my mentor whenever something doesn't turn out right. It just doesn't feel right to modify the expt based on my own judgement without getting his go-ahead when I'm working with the limited reagent that my mentor synthesized from scratch. I'm grateful though for his trust in me that I have carried out the expt accurately and that it is indeed the procedure that requires tweaking. Perhaps the best way to return that trust is to have my confidence in myself. Maybe I'm so used to instructions and "recipes" that it feels weird that others are treating me like a working peer rather than acting as a higher authority ever ready to pass judgements on my actions. But it's something I have to learn to cope with though, that others are respecting me as an individual. On a side note, I'm almost halfway through my second internship. Indeed, a month is too short for me to learn anything much in the technical aspects. It has though highlighted the possibility of me doing research as a future career path. :) Oh yes, the CORS battle is about to start! I actually ain't very obsessed with planning a good timetable this time round, so that's a slight improvement. I'll just be glad to get modules that I set out to bid for, and any timetable is fine with me. For one, I've given up my free day to pursue a module that I shouldn't be taking this semester. Anyway, going to school makes me feel good and positive; so really I don't mind going to school every other day. :) It's my last 2 or 3 years as an undergraduate and I truly wish to enjoy these days without being bogged down by all those AOB stuff that wouldn't matter anyway. Thought of doing something crazy and irrational. But whatever that should have ended has ended there and then. In an ideal scenario, it's pointless holding onto things that should fade away, or pushing aside things that's really rooted internally. What matters most is to be able to come into harmony with the self, without choosing to perceive things in a manner that we want it to be. Thursday, July 22, 2010 @ 12:20 AM
Inception Lol so happy for myself today cos I managed to assemble a pump from a mess of its respective parts. I guess it's always good to make an attempt to figure out some stuff on my own, otherwise I'll never really internalise that particular know-how. Okay! Shall bring with me an investigative spirit tomorrow then and be open to erratic results that may arise. The key word is, think! I think I have about 5 attempts for trial-and-error judging from the amout of sample I synthesized today. Actually I think I enjoy the work I am doing now, after I'm allowed to do some independent work. Anyway, moving on to the main point. Watched Inception today with hc and mic in the cinema. Indeed, it's one of the rare movie that's attractive enough to make me feel compelled to watch it on the big screen. Yet I guess my expectations of the show was too high, such that it ended in slight disappointment. Actually overall, I would say it's a good show, just that it didn't quite match my idea of what the show would be - so yes, the disappointment was due to my biased opinion more than inherent deficiency/fault of the movie. Will give it a 3.5-4.0/5.0 rating; though objectively, it's more of a 4.0/5.0 movie. Dream-in-dream-in-dream isn't an entirely new idea to me actually, because I've experienced it before. And it's really quite scary, even though it wasn't a nightmare. And somehow within my dream, I could acknowledge the fact that I have just dreamt that I was in a dream (I was in my 3rd layer of dream) and there was a feeling of true fear that I wasn't gonna wake up. Think I had 4 to 5 layers of dream back then. Anyway, the concept of distortion between dream and reality is a good one, just that I thought it wasn't that well-developed in the show. I guess more time was devoted towards the actions, which ain't the top of my concern actually. I choose to interpret dreams and reality to be of a circular nature. There's no clear "in here" or "out there"; your consciousness simply just weaves in and out. And I guess there's no real need for a clear distinction to be made too. Dreams and reality are but mere perceptions; to live the fullest of wherever we might be is the key thing. Even if happiness felt is but an illusion, does it really matter, given that the illusion is so consistent and lasting that the reality behind the dream never re-surface? We actually can't be sure of the nature of the world we are currently in, but we chose to perceive it as reality and so, it is the reality. If seeding an idea in dream is a difficult task, then we might be stronger in dreams than in reality. Wednesday, July 21, 2010 @ 12:22 AM
Be clear So it has been sent. I wonder what will come out of it. Hmm one thing about email is the differing degree of lag-time for different individuals. It becomes a mess when not handled with care. Come to think of it, I think I mixed up my sequence once again. Oh wells, shall try to settle everything tomorrow, at least on my part irregardless of when the others will receive and reply. One thing I learn in general, which can be applied to the email-situations too, is that there's a need to be clear about my objectives. It's not time to be wishy-washy. My responsibility lies in getting my point across clearly to the other party, so that he/she can place an accurate judgement on the issue; and thereafter, it is their responsibility to decide accordingly. It's pointless trying to put myself in others' shoes excessively and second-guessing their decisions since it only serves to complicate the whole process. No point leaving so many options open to them, if I know that some options offered are things that I wouldn't want to be involved in once it has been decided upon. In some sense, it's better to be selfish at times and when everyone thinks in this manner, the aggregate effect is that the welfare of all gets optimized even though compromises have to be made along the way. Anyway, heard this song on 我要唱下去. Not for the first time though. 優客李林 - 輸了你贏了世界又如何 Taken in this context, it's important to be clear about what's important so that we don't end up moving on aimlessly and in the process, losing the thing that matters the most. The Newpaper Big Walk 2010 @ Marina Bay The NewPaper Big Walk 2010 @ Marina Bay kick started today! :) Woke up at 5.40am in preparation for the event! Surprisingly I wasn't very tired. Went with my walking partner, sj. haha. @ Marina Bay. And that's the flyer! Well, we arrived slightly late and it seems that they've already flagged off! :O Spent some time trying to search for the goodie bag point (oops) and lots of time queueing for it. It's little wonder why we thought the Big Walk should be renamed the Big Queue. At 7.56am, when we enquired the road marshalls for the flow of events, it seems that many have already cleared the 5km route. That's pretty shocking, and definitely faster than the time I usually take to run 5km. Flag-off. Without us. When we started the walk proper, the mystery was finally solved! It took us barely 5-10min to walk from 3km to 2km mark. O.o And then from 2km to 1km. Probably the most accurate measure is the last 1km distance. And I wonder where's the promised scenic view along the route? Haha but it was okay la. Just walking for fun, joy and laughter! =D Organisation could have been better, but it's the first time this event is held at Marina Bay, so I guess coordination is something new. There's problem with either mine or their maths. It can't be the former. Lol. There were interesting "poster" for you to pop your head from at the end point, which I gladly took photo with. haha. We passed by the Marina Bay Sands along the way too, which we parked ourselves at for a while after the walk. The casino appeared to be quite a high class place, though with strong cigarette smell too =X Shopping center has Tiffany, Chanel, Gucci, etc.. You get the idea. Wee~ Self-entertaining with unglam shots again. And I finally stepped onto the Helix Bridge. That is, after the 3rd attemp. -.- Well done! The actual structure looks better than I thought it was. At least it's slightly artistic, rather than just some metal rods which I perceived from the ECP. Floating platform from the Helix Bridge. The Helix Bridge itself! Visited the Youth Olympics Park too! Rather interesting though small in parameters. Attempted to take some rather "fun" and "innovative" photos over there. And yes, "Hi, I'm here!" Roamed around Marina Square after that. Lunch was at Waraku Pasta with its DBS 1-for-1 promotion. Nice and cheap :) I think I've tried most of the "better-sounding" soup pasta already. Maybe it's time for me to try some other categories of pasta on my next visit there! Intention to K was faced with difficulty - Kbox and Partyworld was too ex, Chai Chee CC K was renovating, Teo Heng's timing was too late and it's impossible to get a room at Chinatown just like that. Headed back to Bedok after nua-ing for a while. Tried Cha Yan She! I think I prefer this to Koi actually :) Comparison is likely to be biased though since I've only tried Milk Tea for Koi, but went for Oolong Tea at Cha Yan She. Pearl-wise, I prefer the one at Cha Yan She. :) Nice, but more pricey than Koi actually relative to its size. Fortunately for 1-1 student offer, today's first attempt was on the budget side. If the way with which details are captured were to change, our perceptions may change accordingly; yet there's always a chance that they're all but one of the same thing after all. They're the same, no matter how different they might appear to be. Saturday, July 17, 2010 @ 9:27 PM
The start of a fresh week Okays, so this week is the start of my next internship this summer break. The feeling's the same as four years ago when I was with the organisation, even though I'm currently attached to another institute. Anyway, I'm glad that I've had good mentors for both internships. Still, I'm having second thoughts about extending my stay; both for practical reason (timetabling issue) and for other reasons. The project I'm working on is rather exciting in some sense because it's rather novel so I have lots of space to be creative in applying my knowledge; yet I can't help but to feel slightly disappointed that nothing about nanotech is involved. Perhaps the most disturbing part of it all is that a half of this particular lab does work on nanoparticles - so near yet so far? The view from where I "sit" in the lab. The sky that I've gotten used to. The cute little plant part I found in the pantry. Anyway, moving on, Thurs was Jo's 21st surprise birthday party! Such a sweet idea to throw her this surprise party, though she was in the know all these while. lol. @ Aranda Country Club, which is quite a nice place. :) The few chem engineers sort of self-entertained ourselves by carrying out various experiments on the helium balloons. Eg. Trying to take like chipmunk, after 'drinking' He gas and testing to see if He is explosive/flammable (that was rather scary in my opinion hahaha). Lotso Bear cushion for Jo. Friday was half-day for me since it's the company DnD. Wanted to join my fellow interns to watch Inception but decided not to do so after all so as to rest at home. That's a movie that I definitely want to catch! Christopher Nolan could become my favourite angmoh director, I think! Anyway, came home to sleep followed by a run. Running is really a good way for me to clear my mind; in fact I'd say it's addictive. Together with the good weather, I almost wanted to just keep running on if not for the darkness. I was overwhelmed by many issues before that and my thoughts just kept running in circles. Running allowed my thoughts to settled down, though now, I can't confidently say that I will carry out what I thought was the best option back then. Saturday was a fruitful day well-spent in a meaningful manner. Went for C.A.N collect, which was one of the activities that I wanted to join since Year 1. Finally found company this time round and I'm glad I went. Reminds me of the LEO days. :) I think the NUS CSC cares for the welfare of volunteers! Really appreciate the small little customised bookmark they made for us. Furthermore, the toughest job of this C.A.N project is actually in sorting out the items collected, yet they leave this job to themselves since it's the least meaningful of all the various stages rather than choosing to "exploit" volunteers. The foursome that's always in charge of combing the "short" part of the flats. lol. Since we were at Bishan, decided to grab Koi bubble tea. Tried Green Milk Tea @ 0% sugar this time round. I think the pearls were rather distracting, since usually I will swallow the drink quickly in order to chew the never-ending supply of pearls. This time round, I had a mouthful of solely the milk tea which tasted quite good. Nonetheless, I think I got sick of it after a while. So yup, no more Koi for me in the short run. Except maybe to try their black/oolong tea - my verdict for the milk tea is that it isn't worth the price. Green Milk Tea: Each-a-cup does better I think. Tomorrow's the New Paper Big Walk! Looking forward to it and I think it's gonna be a good day ahead. A 5km walk, probably a good one for me to clear my mind, which I think is once again cluttered up. I guess, thinking much and thinking long doesn't equate to thinking well. In fact I find that the decisions that I make after giving much serious thoughts end up "wrong" since I do lots of biased weighing that's skewed towards a particular end that I perceive to be the best choice and I will just do all sorts of justifications pointing towards that end. Decisions made at the spur of the moment might turn out to be the right one after all. Maybe any reasoning is just a form of post-mortem justification and things really are just random. That same sky can appear to be so different. Can you believe what you see and perceive? I want to be back at where I feel happiest; that is, if I know where it is. I think I do. Party, Internship and emails Attended Jocelyn's 21st Birthday party yesterday! :) I quite liked the deco, which was quite elegant. And the balloons actually haha. I agree with what some said, it was abit like a wedding dinner, with the "newly-weds" going around for photos as well as the "wedding video". The video's really a neat idea! =D As usual, we had our redundant card and our random talks. Haha. I didn't take any photos though (cos I know the condition of my camera phone under low light condition). Tomorrow's the start of my next internship! Quite excited about it actually! I wonder what project I'm assigned to as well as who's gonna be my mentor! Alrights go go go! =D Anyway, I can't believe I took ages to draft a rather short email just now. How did I land myself in such situation? Haha. But since I'm in it, just gotta make the best of it ba. On a completely different note, I hope I remember to do my MPE before it ends on Thurs. This will constantly be on my mind for the next few days definitely since I definitely don't want to be burning my bid points when CORS officially starts! Friday, July 09, 2010 @ 4:48 PM

Officially "Graduated"! Okay finally found some time (and strength) to do some updating. My break for the past 3 days has been spent mostly on the bed, trying to sleep my fever and heatiness away. =X Oh wells, at least I'm on the road to recovery now! Oh yes, I've officially "graduated" from my internship, as of 06/07/10. =D Recieved my "graduation" cert and photo. lol. On a random note, I saw photos of the NUS commencement bear and lion - quite cute, I'm so gonna get them next time! :) So that's it, my 2 months of summer break - well-spent! The journey was actually filled with lots of uncertainties, to be frank. I "sold" many promises, which I wasn't really that sure if I could fulfill. Fortunately at the end of the day, all went well and I delivered most of the stuff I set out to do initially. I've learnt many things, especially about what working life is about. I guess that the single most important take-home lesson I've gained. After the "graduation" ceremony, caught Toy Story 3 with two other fellow interns. Maybe I'd say that it's a show that came at the right time? I enjoyed the movie and yes, the ending was good. Two messages I take from the show - 1) Don't lose focus of what matters to you, and 2) We might not want to, but we all have to move on. It's pointless if Andy just kept the toys as part of his obligations; it's better for him to move on with his life yet keeping in mind what all those toys once meant to him. We all have to say goodbye someday, just remember to make it a meaningful one. Anyway, I thought one of the best scene in the show was when all the toys held hands together and await their impending doom down the incinerator. And on Wednesday, I received my A*star orientation package. Yups, so I'm starting on my next journey this coming Monday. Looking further ahead of time, school's starting soon and I'm already a Year 3. That's really fast. :O Like what I always say, if given a choice, I'd rather be studying forever! :) Tuesday, July 06, 2010 @ 12:32 AM
An end to a journey Last day interning @ DSTA. It's been a good 8 weeks. Really thumbs up to the working environment. Ended it off with a presentation of my work for the past 2 months. Went on pretty smoothly I should say, at least it turned out the way I thought it should be. Pretty much a mixed feeling today. At one end, I felt happy because it feels like I've "graduated" from my internship; at the other end, I'm probably leaving the place for good and that's the last time I'm going to see my office and table. Maybe I should say that things that are worth me treasuring will withstand the test of time, so I'll see how strong my bond with my colleauges is. Tomorrow's the official closing ceremony. I embarked on this journey out of sheer laziness - since I was "invited" to join the program, I just flowed with the entire application process. I went to the Opening Ceremony feeling uncertain about many things and I was indeed unsure how things would turn out to be over the next 8 weeks. Now I can say confidently, it was time well-spent. I've learnt alot; be it technical know-hows, the process of getting something out of nothing, report-writing and presentation skills, as well as peeping into the realities of life. Actually I quite appreciate the truthfulness in which many facts of life were communicated to me because I feel that people who are frank enough to share with me such thoughts are sincere in teaching me a life lesson. Recieved quite a bit of farewell treats. Farewell Lunch @ SP Indian buffet by colleagues, farewell dinner @ Sushi Tei & 2am Dessert by mentor, farewell lunch @ little bali by "boss" and farewell tea break by other colleagues + mentor. That's really lots of eating. Indeed, I'm very well fed throughout this internship. My food list is almost completed! In that few hours, I went from "02 days to expiring" to "visitor" to "commoner". Another week in review Yet another very very eventful week. Even though I sort of forgotten what happened just a few moments before I start blogging. haha. Monday - went for a pool session with mentor and another colleague + her husband after work. Such a great chill-out session! I'm really a newbie at pool, but they were very encouraging and patient in "coaching" me. I feel bad to play so badly, but at the back of my mind, I know I shouldn't. Feeling bad doesn't improve any situation whatsoever. The way to go is to pick up whatever they taught me and try my best at having a go. Really enjoyed myself! :D I'm still bad at it nonetheless, but I look forward to having another session with them. If there's a chance, that is.. Tuesday to Thursday - Madness rush to NUS after work. Haha. Okay, went back as "senior" to crash ChESS camp. Was kind of the "odd one out" cos I'm not part of the main comm and hence didn't know anyone in the FWC comm. Nonetheless, the senior comms ppl were nice to me and made me feel rather welcomed. :D In fact, it tempts me to join ChESS seeing how nice the ppl r. The sad thing is, I've sort of missed my chance since most ppl in the main comm are from year 2s, and I'm moving on to year 3 already. It's totally random, but I kinda become part of the "pocky" and "teletubbies" senior group. O.o First SP night went around traumatising ppl with pocky sticks and yw became one of the target too! LOL! Second night was worse when we went around as "teletubbies" feeding ppl weird "potion". hahaha. Third night had buffet! :D And I really liked the band's performance. Heard that the guitarist is a chem eng student though unsure about the other 2. Nice nice! :) Friday - My farewell day I guess? Had a farewell lunch buffet @ some Indian restaurant at Science Park. Well, it wasn't really said officially that it's my farewell, but somehow a few mentioned it here and there, so I think it is.. hahaha. anyway, it's sponsered! Next was my farewell dinner by my mentor. :D Brought me to Holland V for dinner @ Sushi Tei and then dessert @ 2am Dessert. Now the dessert place is really good! Molecular gastronomy (food + chemistry). There's a section where you can enjoy your dessert lying down. :) It was really a very relaxing night and a good mental get-away. We chatted quite a bit - from work to school to life in general. It's a good session and I think I found a friend in my mentor :D Weekend - Finally a good good rest! Slept till late and slept repeatedly after breakfast and lunch. oops. I just needed that rest to recharge. :) Sat was rushing out some photos since I was thinking of giving my colleagues farewell gifts. Couldn't manage the quantity that I hoped to produce so I had to hope that ppl whom I missed out wouldn't mind that much =X Sunday was spent watching shows and preparing for my presentation tomorrow. Which brings me to the point.. My internship is officially coming to an end. Monday for DSTA and Tuesday for the entire Internship@Gov. It's fast, but I guess that's just life and I just have to move on.. Thursday, July 01, 2010 @ 12:29 AM
