First post of recess week

Havent been hearing this song for a long time (it's never played when my phone's on shuffle mode) and yups, it's on 933

绝口不提爱你 - 郑中基

Really a classic. 闭上眼睛忍住呼吸 暂时要和时间脱离

I notice that I haven't been updating my blog during the recess week, in spite of having more free time. Maybe I just get lazy when I don't have things to do. Often, fleeting thoughts get into my mind but they ain't persistently significant enough for me to pen down an entry till completion, aka "publish post".

Oh yes, I went back school on Wednesday, which is probably the highlight of the week. Lol. It's quite fortunate that my 2 activities coincide on the same day, so it's killing two birds with one stone. School, as usual, is happening and exciting. Haha. Somehow I think that school is a good place to destress actually. :P

Oh and internship search's been a tough one. =X Maybe at the end of the day, I will return to doing research internship after all. In some sense, doing what I've always been doing and maybe that's indicative of what I will be doing in the future after all. It remains as a tugging feeling though, that an engineering student is clueless as to how the industry functions.

Been sleeping alot recently too. Maybe it's the weather...

Thinking about thinking, till the point of being speechless. Shhh...

Yup, so let the music do the talking then...

蕭煌奇-末班車

havent been listening to lyrics nor deciphering the meaning of the song. But the tune is nice. Maybe I just like the words 别说话.Maybe when the time comes, I will appreciate the song (if I still remember it, that is).

Lady Antebellum - Need You Now

JJ Lin 林俊傑 - 心牆

I prefer this to Claire's version.

Recess Week!

It's the start of recess week! 'Last day' of school didn't feel very different for me this time round - when I first started uni, I felt the compelling need to do catch up over the week; later when I started to enjoy my course more and more, I was very sad to see the first half of the sem ending just like that! This time, it's neutral - just like any other days. It feels good today, though, to be able to wake up and laze on the bed, not needing to do up assignments every other week. :)

School-wise, cleared 2 of my econs weekly assignments. Submitted my term assignment for soci and philo too. Did a presentation for my TE too. So all in all, Week 6 has been busy yet fulfiling. Many deadlines, but none too overwhelming. :)

Went to Changi Airport twice this week. First to see CS off to France (again). And I made an observation now that we're all in jeans. Haha mostly due to circumstances.

Yup and next was the ohoneohsix class outing to Changi Airport.

It seems that over the past few months, many things have changed. Every one of us has been shaped by our own unique experiences. Yups, there's certainly lots of catch-up to do!

On a more random note, Swensen's omelette set is really not bad :) Had mine with cheese and mushroom.

This post isn't supposed to end on this note, but since I happen to hear this song over the radio...

JJ - 记得

The weather doesn't blend well with this song.

Yet another weekend

Been a rather busy weekend, having to rush through tutorials, presentation slides and assignments due next week. It is however rather satisfying to know that I managed to complete them all :)

Week 6 is coming, meaning that recess week is coming and that the semester is halfway there. For the past 2 sems, I have resisted the end of the sem because there's great joys derived from going to school in spite of the busy schedule. Yet, I gotta admit that this time round, I'm hoping for the recess week to come for a breather.

Actually it's a mixed feeling, cos I really don't wanna my TE to end! There are so many exciting life science ideas out there that I wanna learn about. I started knowing nothing about proteomics, except this distant impression that my jc bio teacher has strongly discouraged students from taking this H3 module cos it is supposed to be a real killer. I struggled through the crash course of quantitative proteomics, not absorbing what is iTraq, SILAC, mTraq, MRM, 2DIGE; but now having done background research on my own, these principles are really great. I think the beauty lies not in the complexity, but in how simple ideas can be linked together in a logical manner to culminate in the final refined technique. Then I started off with the preconception that I wouldn't like system biology. I was wrong - the language of -omics intrigues me and it's really neat how everything can be stringed together by the central dogma. Definitely great that the lecturer communicated the ideas across from a research point of view, such that I no longer see the various processes as ready-made facts to be swallowed and regurgitated.

Oh, and the 6 of us had a gathering again! :) This time it's at bugis, with I <3 Taimei as the main focus. lol. Lunch was at pastamania, followed by shopping around Bugis Junction. Finally, we settled down at Food Junction with 2 of them rehearsing for their presentation tomorrow.

Had milk tea with Taro Q. Actually in my opinion, it's not that great after all. Maybe I need another try; or maybe I'm just tired of bubble tea?

CNY outings

Well well.. I think i've been rather lethargic, unmotivated and un-enthusiastic about anything for the past few weeks. Been pushing off matters, from big ones such as internship search to moderate ones such as assignments due to small ones such as uploading photos/videos or updating blog. I'm constantly thinking about retirement -.-

It's quite a miserable feeling but I've gotta snap out of it. And yes, I should do so starting next week, aka tomorrow. Not gonna drag my feet about matters only to let them accumulate till the extent that it seems futile attending to them after all. Gonna spend my time productively and efficiently, as I've been doing in the past. It's gonna be a busy week ahead, but I'll try my best to conquer it anyways. Hopefully as I fight harder, all the energy will return to me!

First up, CNY visiting has been the same old routine as with every year. :) Visited relatives and our HCL teacher! It has become a yearly event for many of us to catch up. This year has been self-entertaining as one of us brought along card games such as Monopoly Deal and Saboteur. Fun!

On our way to our teacher's house!

Woke up rather early this morning and did something random! Cooked the soba noodle and miso soup that I bought from Daisou few weeks back. It was slightly tedious cooking the soba noodle since there's a need for after-treatment with running water after boiling it up. Quite a fun experience though! :) And as I've always believed, if I can do lab work, there should be no reason why I can't whip up a dish. Though getting it done is one thing, how good it is is yet another issue altogether :P
Starting materials

End product! Bad presentation but edible enough. lol.

And yes, CS is back from France! All the countdowns from 90 odd days to less than a month and finally a few days counting. And yes, the six of us finally reunited. Feels as good as before! :)

Plus the photographer, who is not in the photo.

Chili soft shell crab from "The Asian Kitchen". Nice stuff! Noodle is immersed in thick chilli crab gravy - shiok! The soft shell crab is rather addictive.

Oh man, healthy dinner. Probably far too healthy for me. 雷茶饭。The "tea" is probably too overwhelming for some to accept. But I finished it up nonetheless. It isn't bad, just rather weird. Haha.

Oh yes, I managed to finish my newspaper review assignment before leaving home, as well as answer the one question which has puzzled me for env econs. Nice!

Assignments. Checked!

Spent the whole of today and yes I'm finally done with my first draft for business ethnics assignment!

And here's the video that I was analyzing. A speech by Larry the Liquidator. Watched it for n-times.

I'm not your best friend, I'm your only friend...

By the way, it pleases me that I am called Larry the Liquidator. You know why fellow stockholders? Because at my funeral, you will leave with a smile on your face and a few bucks in your pocket. Now, that's a funeral worth having.
--- Lawrence Garfield

And since I have chosen Friedman for comparison, I find myself listening to many of Friedman's speeches on youtube. Actually it's pretty interesting!

Alrights, now gotta source for a good newspaper article for my soci assignment!

Happy Chinese New Year

It's Chinese New Year again.

Since it's the year of rabbit, here's Miffy. It symbolises my thoughts/attitude for this year (or at least the CNY period).

Simple and down-to-earth. No frills.
