Tidied up my computer stuff a bit and organised my schedule for the upcoming weeks. Feels good to be in control of my life again!

Wake-up Call

It was a timely scare, having been very slack/negligent with respect of numerous administrative matters that I had to see to recently. I have no idea if anything did go wrong for my commencement registration, or acceptance of grad studies offer but this is a good wake up call!

Regain my enthusiasm about everything once again! Positivity!

As I sift through my photos to be uploaded onto facebook, I think I'm a lucky and therefore, a happy person. But I've always treated those simple happiness as transparent and am constantly reaching out for something out there, maybe something even bigger and more exciting? By ignoring what's there and looking towards what's not there, it's of little wonder why I'm constantly in a state of disappointment/unhappiness.

So, I shall learn to appreciate and treasure every small things in life from now onwards. I guess I have forgotten how to be excited/thrilled over little joys. At the end of the day, those would probably matter more in spite of what I might think or what others say.

I'm going to graduate officially as an undergraduate soon, as of 30 June 2012, and will commence my grad studies right at the very same place which I've grown to like so much! Nevermind about what everyone says, I'm going to make the best of my next 4 - 5 years here! =D

"The one who loves you most is not necessary the one who is best"
At the end, materialistic May opted for the one whom didn't meet any of her criteria but would stay by her till the very end.

Night saw that they can never have a complete family nor age together.

Project Taiwan - Success!

Back from Taiwan as of 04/06/12! It has been a great trip, be it the places I went to, fellow travel-mates, or the numerous adventures we went through.

Off I went on Cathay Pacific on an early Sunday morning (27/05/12, 7.10am) en route Taiwan via transit in Hong Kong. And yes, so I landed in Hong Kong as my first country destination :`) And that really meant alot to me. It won't be the same feeling again the next time I'm there, even if I were going to officially check out of custom to step onto the land proper. But I'm grateful for this much, and shan't ask for more :)

And so I embarked on a journey that I would have never dream I could start...

Day 1: Taoyuan --> Taichung (bus) --> Sun Moon Lake (bus)
Day 2: (Within SML) Ropeway --> Ferry --> Xuan Yin Si --> Rice Wine Museum
Day 3: (On cab) Peacock Garden --> Wen Wu Temple --> Zhi Jiao Tang (literally translated as Paper Church) --> Puli (Puli Brewery, 18 degree Chocolate Factory) --> Ong Zai Ji for lunch --> Cingjing! (Off cab) Cingjing Town Plaza --> Carton King --> Little Swiss Garden (Night lighting)

Day 4: (In Cingjing) Green Green Grassland --> Little Swiss Garden (Daytime) --> En route Taipei via Taichung HSR

Day 5: National Palace Musuem --> Xi Men Ding --> Neo19
Day 6: Yehliu GeoPark --> Jinguashi --> Jiufen --> Keelung Night Market

Day 7: Chiang Kai Shek Memorial Hall --> Xi Men Ding --> Dan Shui --> Shilin Night Market
Day 8: Taipei Underground Mall --> Wu Fen Pu --> Raohe Night Market

Day 9: Home sweet home!

We didn't fulfill everything on our planned itinerary, but I think we achieved much more in the form of unexpected adventures. Did so many things that we wouldn't have done had we been in Singapore, and upon  completion, we just can't help but to ask ourselves, "did we really just did that?" even though the end point might not have been attained.

Our journey to the first destination was kinda scary. Attempted to reach SML via 2 bus transfer. At the transit point, we couldn't find the next bus stop that we were supposed to take the connecting bus from. Fortunately, we asked the right person just in time to dash across the road, alert the uncle and buy the bus tickets before the bus set off in about 3 minutes. Oh, and we literally dashed across the long stretch of road dragging our luggages (which unfortunately for me, kept toppling over despite having four wheels. Imagine my luggage toppling down twice in the airport lol..) as there was no traffic light tho it was marked with zebra crossing-like lines. In the midst of our anxiety, a couple approached us (dragging luggages and looking obviously lost) for direction haha. We were then told that this was the second last bus to our ulu destination upon arrival. Imagine missing it, then we'd really be on the last bus.

First day @ SML was gloomy. Took the ropeway to another area thinking the cloudy weather was great, but decided to risk coming back via the same cable car despite the subsequent rain as all we could think of was to get back to where we came from. Ran for ferry to reach the other side of the lake, wearing a raincoat that was surprisingly too short and feeling angsty over rain-soaked sneakers, and still missed the ferry. Ran for the ferry again the next time round and almost missed it again. Finally made it to a proper tourist spot only at 3+pm and decided to walk over to the nearby spot via a connecting trail which suspiciously nobody else embarked on despite the crowd. Went into an unknown forest, was irritated by numerous mosquitoes, frightened by the nearby fierce dog and feared the unknown, e.g. snakes and creepy crawlies lying amongst the bush. We turned back, but this was a great adventure in my opinion! So yups, I didn't see much of what we were supposed to see, but the experience went beyond that.

Apparently, the 3 of us had the "easy to scam" face. The moment we stepped down from plane in Taiwan (literally at the plane entrance, not even at the custom), a weird uncle offered to pay us to bring his wine out of custom. Eh, no thank you! At ximending, a scam group was trying to sell their "self-designed" pen to finance their university fees - eh yeah, so why did you have to withdraw those pens the moment a policeman drove by? @ cingjing, there were so many taxi drivers (some were driving unlabelled white van) desperately trying to get customers - their prices were so low that a fellow Singaporean whom we met muttered "你拿我去卖,我就死了”. There was one uncle who drove into our pavement, got down the vehicle, went to us and "offered" to drive us in a demanding tone.

Everyone of us had things that we're scared of. I guess mine's the more special one - stairs and roads. -.- After walking flight of stairs, I'd start to lag behind. Not to mention that I almost fell (just missing landing completely flat on ground) at the same flight of stairs twice in a day and almost causing my friend walking in front of me to fall since I fell on her -.- I guess I screamed the most for the trip, since I was afraid of road. The vehicles looked very very threatening! And I still don't quite understand their traffic rules completely.

Not to forget the paranoid-ness! After hearing that Yehliu Geopark is very hot, I decided to equip myself with some war-like biscuit from 7-11. It writes 必备 for 登山,郊游,紧急。Bought 2 bottles of water too. Almost brought ice packs from Singapore. In the end, the weather was great and my activated war-ready state was for nothing. Haha. Was quite a good laugh for my friends though.

Oh yes, about getting lost too. Somehow places with Keelung doesn't resonate well with us. We were lost for 2 nights @ Keelung. Couldn't find our way back, despite the need to rush for the last metro. On the first night, we were directed to the numerous bus stops/interchange that's present within that area by different Taiwanese and we decided to take a train back after all even though the bus would have taken us straight to just outside our hostel. On the second night, we walked into a suspiciously dead lane full of construction sites with the only thing that seemed alive being a shop with lots of neon lights hmmm. A few of us insisted that we were walking along the metro/train line, and I pointed out repeatedly that the track cannot have signboard-like thing obstructing the train movement and so that had to be the highway/freeway! After moments of silence standing on that ulu land under the rain, we fortunately decided to turn back towards the crowd. Along the way, there were motorists speeding past and making weird noises.

Yups, so much for the adventures. There were new things that I learnt about myself from this trip - I really like nature. Mountains, greenery and the sea. Yups, surprisingly the sea was great to me even though I've always thought that I'm incompatible with water. Even though I can be quite a difficult person back at home and harp on nitty gritty details, but I was rather adaptable and accepting of new things/practices there. I felt like a pressure cooker before the trip, not because of stress but more of the restrictive thoughts I had. It was nicely released during the trip :) And not forgetting to mention, I found the gem of a place - Cingjing! :) Sure, it's rather artificial but I felt simple happiness over there, just immersing myself in the tranquil environment. Not to mention the large number of HK or at least Canto-speaking tourists around! :) Okay that's not the point. A really unforgettable place!

Lastly, I had great company! Fortunately, we were in sync with one another or even if there were slight differences (if any, they were unspoken), we managed to compromise comfortably. Our pet phrase was "Take it easy!" If we wanted to laze around, just do so. If there were places we wanted to go, we tried to. If the going proved too tough or dubious, we can go without and be glad that we've made it thus far.

With this, I declare "Project Taiwan - Success!" =D

Alone time with music again. Guess this is addictive.

These 3 songs were my fav hits in Taiwan.

A random song heard at Raohe NM.

And I kept humming this song in my head too.

After I'm back, I'm basically surrounded by these 3 songs.

Live

[Drenched]

Have we lost our minds? What have we done?
But it all doesn't seem to matter anymore.

Yes, it's the same song just that it's now in English. This MV, song, tune and feeling is just great! And I just realised that the tune is by Lin Qi Yu!

As time goes by, I realise that I can be satisfied listening to just a few songs that really striked me. All other songs can entertain, but they don't stay for long.
